Making Drum Patterns for the GNX4
This is our most complex tutorial yet,
but following it will be worth the effort. When you're done, you'll be
able to create your own drum patterns in the Pro Tracks Plus software,
transfer them into the GNX4, and have them available at any time for practicing,
playing —— or just to serve as a cool drum machine.
Note that there are two separate elements to this tutorial, the Flash
Tutorial and the video. Please start with the Flash tutorial, as it gives
crucial information about setting up your software and hardware. After
doing so, the tutorial will advise you when to check out the video. However,
you don't have to look at the video; you can simply continue along with
the Flash tutorial.
Flash Tutorial 7 [654K]
Please note — this tutorial
assumes that:
• You have installed Pro Tracks Plus 2.2, as described in the GNX4’s
documentation
• The GNX4’s USB drivers are installed, also as described
in the documentation
• In Pro Tracks Plus, the Audio assignments under Options
> Audio and the MIDI assignments under Options
> MIDI Devices are correct, so that the DigiTech
GNX4 drivers are communicating with Pro Tracks Plus 2.2. For this
tutorial, it is necessary to set MIDI assignments even if you are not
using MIDI. Under Options > MIDI Devices,
only “DigiTech USB MIDI” should be selected for the inputs
and outputs. Deselect any other MIDI options that are selected. After
selecting the output, click on “ Move Selected Devices to Top.”
Tutorial #6, “Meet Pro Tracks Plus and USB” tell how to set
these assignments and describes the program’s basics. Meanwhile,
if you haven’t installed Pro Tracks Plus 2.2 and the GNX4 USB drivers,
please do so now.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE:
When you want the GNX4 to communicate with the computer (e.g., for transferring
files), the CF STORAGE button should be on (lit green), and the GNX4 recorder’s
display should show CF Stor. When you want the GNX4 to use the files on
the CompactFlash (e.g., play back the MIDI files we are about to create),
the CF STORAGE button should be OFF. This is explained fully in Tutorial
#6.
